Background: The game is set within a post-apocalyptic, open world environment that encompasses a scaled region consisting of the ruins of Washington, D.C. and much of the countryside to the north and west of it, referred to as the “Capital Wasteland”. It takes place within Fallout‘s usual setting of a world that deviated into an alternate timeline thanks to atomic age technology, which eventually led to its devastation by a nuclear apocalypse in the year 2077 (referred to as “The Great War”), caused by a major international conflict between the United States and China over natural resources and the last remaining supplies of untapped uranium. The main story takes place in the year 2277, around 36 years after the events of Fallout 2, of which it is not a direct sequel. Players take control of an inhabitant of Vault 101, one of several underground shelters created before the Great War to protect around 1,000 humans from the nuclear fallout, who is forced to venture out into the Capital Wasteland to find their father after he disappears from the Vault under mysterious circumstances. They find themselves seeking to complete their father’s work while fighting against the Enclave, the corrupt remnants of the former U.S. government that seeks to use it for their own purposes.

There is SOOO much to this game, I dont really know where to start. Fallout 3 GOTY is so rich in so many ways. The original game is awesome in itself, but as I am a HARDCORE fan and player it FELT short after about 300+ game hours. I know most of the gamer’s out there doesn’t even give any game more then 100 hour’s of gameplay but I do. And especially in a game of this magnitude. The game has ALOT of content, after level 15 which is well enough to clear the mainstory and end the game, there’s still alot to do, but when you hit max level you lose the ability to be even more powerful. Then again, you dont need to be more powerful at that level since you are pretty much immortal at that stage wether you are a melee or arms type. The DLC’s in GOTY are somewhat short but still alot of fun and varied. My personal favorites are the level increase with the game, and the ability to continue playing after the main story ended. A stroke of genius from Bethesda in my opinion. It made me eager and hungry for more, I’m rarely excited but this really made me excited. If you pick up the GOTY edition you’ll be happy to know that you dont need to clear the DLC’s in any order, you can do whatever you want, and that freedom is super fun. The DLC’s that I wanna push for are as follows: 1. Mothership Zeta, it’s a bit goofy, typically Fallout, but well made and some really cool stuff to bring to the Normal Fallout world. 2. Point Lookout, it is the big DLC of them all, a bit scary, a bit mystical and eerie, my thoughts went to Silent Hill and it really has this eerie feeling when arriving. The story is well written and somewhat compact but It doesn’t matter when you suddenly recieve strange perks that is AWESOME. The other DLC’s are still worth playing if your’e a fan and want as much story and content as possible but I’ll leave the experience to you to find out.
Mainly in Fallout 3 your’e in Washington DC of the U.S.A. and it is beautifully wrecked after the war. Humanity has managed to survive the nuclear blast and as in Fallout 1 and 2 humans and ghouls are a pretty common sight. Most of them are as one could suspect in a world like this, hostile or wary of you, and like the older games you are confronted with the possibility to solve any issue with diplomacy or violence. This aspect of the game is one of the best things about it. Making it so fun to play the game again and again and trying out different tactics. It is a great value game.
I wont be adressing the anticipation for this or any other game since I dont believe the hype regarding anything, that’s just me. It should be obvious enough with the release of practically EVERY game on this list that it had major bugs and flaws in its initial release. But some bug patches and updates, fixes MOSTLY everything and make every game so much better.
